Clearway Energy Group has announced that its Rosamond South 1 project in Kern County, California, is commercially operational. The 117 MW energy storage and 140 MW solar complex will generate enough electricity to power more than 72,000 homes annually, deploying low-cost energy during peak demand when it is needed most. “We are pleased to bring Rosamond South online and continue to serve Kern County and the broader region with reliable, low-cost energy,” said Valerie Wooley, senior VP of origination at Clearway. “Thank you to our valued customers for partnering with Clearway to help achieve your clean energy goals and bring…
Researchers in Spain assessed six models used to calculate angle of incidence modifier (IAM) losses in photovoltaic systems. They identified the Martín-Ruiz model as the most comprehensive, as it uniquely accounts for additional angular losses caused by contamination. November 5, 2025 Emiliano Bellini Researchers from the Technical University of Madrid have completed a comprehensive review of modeling tools used to measure the angle of incidence modifier (IAM) – a factor that describes how the optical efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) modules changes as the sun’s rays deviate from a line perpendicular to the module surface. The team explained that IAM losses…
Eco Stor says construction has begun on a 300 MW/714 MWh battery storage facility in Förderstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, now the largest such project under development in Germany. November 5, 2025 Sandra Enkhardt By ESS news RWE briefly held the record for Germany’s largest battery storage facility under construction its 400 MW / 700 MWh project. Following the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Eco Stor’s 300 MW/714 MWh project in Förderstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, has now taken the lead in storage capacity, becoming the largest battery storage facility currently under construction in the country. High-ranking representatives from politics and industry attended the symbolic ceremony in…
Dutch developers Novar and Avitec are leading the project with support from a consortium of Dutch engineering and technology suppliers, including Plug Power, Resato Hydrogen Technology, Van Halteren Technologies and Summit Renewable Projects, which are responsible for the installation. Dutch sustainable energy company Repowered provides system control and optimization, while green energy service partner Klaer is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the system. The H2 Hollandia project reached financial close in October. It is financed through a combination of support from Novar and Avitec, grants at national and regional level and support from Utrecht Rabobank, which provided debt…
More than 35,000 households in Uzbekistan received state subsidies between January and September to export surplus electricity from rooftop solar systems, the State Tax Committee says, as participation in the Solar Home program increases nationwide. November 5, 2025 Patrick Jowett Image: Daniele La Rosa Messina/Unsplash The Uzbek government has expanded direct payments to solar-generating households, disbursing more than UZS 153 billion ($12.8 million) under its Solar Home program to encourage broader small-scale adoption and grid exports. The voluntary initiative, active since April 2023, pays UZS 1,000/kWh for excess electricity supplied to the grid. The number of participants has more than…
NYSERDA announced today that more than $7 million has been awarded to projects bringing together solar and agricultural activities in New York State. Through NYSERDA’s Environmental Research Program, more than $2 million was awarded to four projects to demonstrate the potential impact and benefits of using the same land for renewable energy generation from solar panels and active agriculture. In addition, a $5 million grant was awarded to Cornell University’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to build agrivoltaic projects at the agricultural experiment stations. Together, the demonstration and research results from these projects will support a broader understanding of…
Newly elected Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger. Photo: Adnan Masri In the 2025 general election, voters in Virginia and New Jersey elected governors committed to clean energy solutions to address rising costs and strengthen the reliability of the electric grid. Governor-elect Abigail Spanberger and Governor-elect Mikie Sherrill focused their campaigns on energy affordability, reliability and readily available clean energy solutions, and won. “The results of both gubernatorial races reflect that leaders who embrace clean energy as a path to lower bills, reliable power and economic growth will be rewarded at the ballot box,” said Heather O’Neill, president and CEO of Advanced…
An international team proposes using antimony-doped silicon from Czochralski as an alternative to n-type silicon for photovoltaic applications. Their analysis showed that 140 μm as-cut planar antimony-doped wafers exhibit slightly higher mechanical strength compared to plain wafers doped with phosphorus. November 5, 2025 Valerie Thompson A team led by the Australian National University has investigated antimony (Sb)-doped Czochralski silicon as an alternative n-type substrate for solar PV applications in a study that included characterization of axial resistance distribution, donor properties and mechanical strength. “This study has clarified why antimony-doped n-type silicon rods can achieve a uniform resistance distribution despite the…
Spain’s Council of Ministers has approved a royal decree to promote energy storage, accelerate electrification and tighten supervision of the national electricity grid, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) says. November 5, 2025 Pilar Sanchez Molina Image: Congress of Deputies By ESS news Spain’s Council of Ministers has approved a royal decree to promote energy storage, accelerate electrification and tighten supervision of the national electricity grid, the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) says. The regulation, which revives provisions from the ‘Anti-Blackout Decree’ that was not adopted in July, sets an energy storage…
The manufacturer cites rising material costs, increased competition from lithium-ion batteries and the slow introduction of sustainable storage technologies as reasons for the decision. November 5, 2025 Marija Maisch NAS battery systems from NGK Insulators Image: NGK By ESS news At its Board of Directors meeting on October 31, 2025, Japanese ceramics manufacturer NGK Insulators announced that it had decided to cease production and sales of its sodium sulfur batteries (NAS) under its Energy Storage Business and to stop accepting new orders. The company estimates that costs associated with this decision will be approximately ¥18,000 million (US$117 million), which is…
