Using atomic layer deposition, a research team from the City University of Hong Kong has created an oxygen-poor tin oxide layer to replace the more common fullerene electron transport layer in perovskite solar cells. The result is a device with an efficiency of 25% that can maintain approximately 95% of its efficiency after 2,000 hours. October 15, 2024 Patrick Jowett Researchers from the City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) have presented a new manufacturing technique for perovskite solar cells. The team developed two innovations in the structure of perovskite solar cells. The first involved integrating the hole-selective materials and the…

Illinois is phasing out full retail net metering and moving to a new solar incentive structure called Smart Solar Billing on January 1, 2025. This change was codified in 2021 through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA), so the solar industry, utilities and other stakeholders have had four years to prepare for this substantial change. While commercial customers in Illinois have been using the Smart Solar Billing plan since 2017, residential customers will now follow suit. Some important elements of the new rate: Smart Solar Billing uses “Dynamic Supply Pricing” to value energy exports based on the time of…

Researchers in Sweden have measured barney yields in a vertical agrivoltaic installation and found that despite the shade created by the modules, yields are comparable to those in open field, if not slightly higher. Their methodology can be replicated for other locations and crops. October 15, 2024 Emiliano Bellini Researchers from Mälardalen University in Sweden have investigated the effects of a vertical agrivoltaic (APV) system on barley yield and nutrient content in Sweden during the 2023 growing season. “The dataset shows that barley grown under the vertical APV system has similar yields as under open field conditions, despite the increase…
