The California Public Advocates Office (PAO) published this in late August a fact sheet on net metering which claims the state’s rooftop solar incentives will cost customers without solar an estimated $8.5 billion by the end of the year. The PAO is a government agency tasked with advocating for the lowest possible bills for customers of California’s regulated utilities. The PAO says that while the new NEM 3.0 net billing rate (NBT) is an improvement over previous net metering programs, it does not address the ongoing “cost shifting” from older NEM 1.0 and 2.0 customers to non-solar payers . The…
HD Hyundai Energy Solutionsan energy subsidiary of HD Hyundai, will launch its new n-TOPCon modules for the US market at the RE+ trade fair next month. This line includes modules with 108 cells for the residential market and modules with 144 and 156 cells for the commercial and utility markets. The new n-type modules have an efficiency ranging from 22.3 to 22.9%. In addition, HD Hyundai Energy Solutions will showcase its tandem cells and RoHS-certified environmentally friendly products. The tandem cells, developed by Hyundai together with the Korea Institute of Chemical Technology, combine perovskite cells and HJT silicon cells, achieving…
One of Chaberton Energy’s completed community solar projects. Chaberton Energy has announced that construction has begun on a new 2.9 MWdirect current community solar project located in Fulton, Maryland. The Lime Kiln solar project was developed by Chaberton and is owned and operated by Pivot Energy. The Lime Kiln community solar project will be part of the Maryland Community Solar program, allowing residents and businesses to subscribe. When completed, it will provide cheaper electricity to residents of all income groups who want access to clean energy but may not be able to install solar panels on their own properties. “The…
Linde has signed a long-term agreement to supply clean hydrogen in Alberta, Canada, while Hyundai Motor and Pertamina have agreed to jointly develop Indonesia’s hydrogen ecosystem. August 27, 2024 Sergio MatalucciLinde has agreed to supply clean hydrogen to Dow’s Fort Saskatchewan Path2Zero Project in the Canadian province of Alberta and to invest approximately CAD 2 billion ($1.48 billion) to build, own and operate a large clean hydrogen and atmospheric gases plant. The complex will capture more than 2 million tons of carbon dioxide per year. “Upon completion in 2028, Linde’s new complex will be in Alberta the largest clean hydrogen…
The US Navy has funded Danish research into preventing biofouling while maintaining visible light transmission on underwater solar cells. The best solution uses ultra-low concentrations of nano-sized, seawater-soluble pigments. Power generation remained at almost 100% after 13 weeks underwater. August 27, 2024 Lior KahanaResearchers funded by the US Navy have developed a new coating for underwater solar cells that prevents biofouling while maintaining visible light transmission. Biofouling, the attachment and growth of organisms, can reduce the optical efficiency of solar cells. These cells are used in unmanned and autonomous underwater vehicles for marine surveillance, oceanographic research and other applications.“The need…
Solar panels for Roman space telescope complete testing The solar panel sunshade for NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has successfully passed a series of critical tests, keeping assembly on track for on-time completion. These solar panels are essential for powering and shading the observatory, enabling mission-critical observations while maintaining optimal instrument temperatures. The Roman team has developed two sets of panels: one intended for flights aboard the observatory and one for preliminary testing purposes. At NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, engineers assessed the test version in a thermal vacuum chamber. This chamber mimics the extreme temperatures…
