The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today announced its proposed Roadmap for Solar Energy Development on Public Lands, designed to expand efficient and environmentally responsible permitting for solar energy projects on public lands in the West. Today the release of the Final Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for Utility-Scale Solar and Proposed Changes to the Resource Management Plan (also known as the proposed updated Western Solar Plan), comes as the Biden-Harris administration releases new data on improved federal permitting processes to help bring more projects to fruition, more efficiently, in the United States. The climate crisis requires immediate action from everyone, and businesses are increasingly adopting net-zero strategies to reduce their impact on the environment. The Paris Agreement states that we must work together globally to limit global warming to 1.5°C, which is a crucial goal. Net-zero emissions means balancing the amount of greenhouse gases we produce with the amount we remove from the atmosphere. This balance is essential in fighting climate change because it helps reduce global warming effects and creates a sustainable future. Financial institutions have a vital role in this transition. They are influential players in the global economy with…
For SunPower Corp. customers in the United States who are concerned about their product warranties now that the installation company has filed for bankruptcy, panel manufacturer Maxeon has come up with a solution. For SunPower systems installed by SunPower dealers that use SunPower brand solar panels made by Maxeon, Maxeon provides warranty coverage for the solar panels. Customers can find instructions on how to register their systems here: maxeon.com/us/sunpower-warranty Maxeon’s panel manufacturing business was spun out of SunPower in 2020 and Maxeon has since operated as an independent company with no further ties to SunPower. SunPower dealers were primarily installing…
National Storage Affiliates Trust (NSA), a real estate group that invests in self-storage properties, plans to partner with Solar Landscape to pursue the installation of solar projects on NSA properties across the country. The groups plan to develop at least 100 MW of solar capacity. NSA has granted Solar Landscape exclusive rights to evaluate approximately 1,000 NSA properties in 42 states and Puerto Rico for the potential to host community solar. “We look forward to working with NSA to install community solar projects at their self-storage facilities,” said Shaun Keegan, CEO and co-founder of Solar Landscape. “Community solar is a…
BESS’s revenues have increased due to negative wholesale energy prices. Image: RES Battery energy storage systems (BESS) achieved the second highest daily total revenue so far in 2024, peaking at £250/MW on 21 August. Analysis from Modo Energy found that this figure is slightly lower than the £258/MW batteries earned to balance the grid on April 16, and further suggested that the sales increase is the result of multiple periods of negative wholesale prices for energy in August 2024. Day-ahead wholesale electricity prices fell below zero for 49 hours in August, a volume second only behind April this year, when…
A research team from Japan and Indonesia used satellite data to investigate fluctuations in solar radiation in the Asia-Pacific region and draw conclusions about which areas are most suitable for future installations. August 29, 2024 Patrick JowettResearchers from Japan’s Chiba University and Indonesia’s Institut Teknologi Bandung have used solar radiation data to understand the best location for future solar power plants in the Asia-Pacific region. The research article “Solar irradiance variability around Asia-Pacific: Spatial and temporal perspective for active solar energy utilization”, published in the July edition of Solar energy, investigates the variability of solar radiation in terms of spatial and…
The partnership, which is said to be the first of its kind in the UK, offers customers access to the Levelise Hub for £599 when purchasing a solar and battery installation. Image: Ottovo. Residential solar and battery marketplace Otovo has announced a partnership with UK virtual power plant (VPP) Levelise to launch an AI-powered ‘Hub’. The Levelise Hub, in combination with a solar PV system from Norway’s Otovo, enables households to actively participate in energy markets to which they normally do not have access, by trading their electricity 24/7 and storing it across multiple homes to aggregate using Levelise’s VPP.…
Yaskawa Solectria Solar has announced that it will show its newest American-made utility-scale inverter, the SOLECTRIA XGI 1500-DCG RE+ 2024, from September 9 to 12 in Anaheim, California. The SOLECTRIA All XGI 1500 inverter solutions can improve the overall domestic content of a project to capture the 10% ITC bonus credit. “We are very excited to celebrate 20 years of American solar solutions and I am honored to have been tasked with building on these achievements,” said Mark Goodreau, general manager of Yaskawa Solectria Solar. “This milestone demonstrates our commitment to the solar industry and we look forward to continuing…
The California Assembly on Wednesday passed a bill on a 58-0 vote to increase the efficiency of the state’s electric grid and accelerate the deployment of renewable energy sources in California. SB 1006 will require utilities to investigate the feasibility of grid enhancement technologies (GETs) and advanced conductors and then submit a report to the California Independent System Operator (CAISO). GETs are easy-to-install hardware and software tools that can do that double the amount of renewable energy that can be integrated into the electricity grid from existing electricity lines. Advanced conductors replace older, inefficient power lines with lines made of…
An indicative site layout for the 30MW Burnbank project, with construction expected to begin in 2026. Image: Renewable Connections. North Lanarkshire Council has approved a 30MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), which will be developed by Renewable Connections. The city council made its decision during a committee meeting on August 14. The BESS site is on Burnbank Street in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, and the system will be connected to SP Energy Networks Coatbridge via a substation. The substation has been identified by the grid operator as a location that could benefit from a BESS. The 30MW/60MWh lithium-ion system will occupy…
