Boviet Solar has officially announced its plans to start a solar panel manufacturing facility in Greenville, North Carolina. The move is referred to as “Project Gen” for several months in the provincial archives.

Boviet Solar will utilize incentives and grants from Pitt County and the North Carolina Dept. of Commerce for the renovation of an existing 500,000 ft.2 building in the Indigreen Corporate Park. The company plans a second 500,000 ft2 construction on site for the production of solar cells. Both the panel factory and the cell factory will have an annual capacity of 2 GW.

The location should create 900 jobs and Boviet expects mass production to begin in early 2025.

“Our dreams of producing our PV modules in the US are finally becoming reality. We are proud to bring our manufacturing excellence to our premier solar market, create jobs and positively impact North Carolina’s economy. We are committed to expanding solar energy as a widely used renewable energy source in the US and providing locally made, best-performing PV modules to accelerate the advent of the global renewable revolution,” said Jimmy Xie, General Manager of Boviet Solar.

Ningbo Boway Alloy Materials Co., a Chinese materials manufacturer that backs Boviet Solar, this week announced its intention to build a 3-GW TOPCon cell factory in Vietnam next to this 2-GW module assembly plant in North Carolina. Although now with Chinese backing, Boviet Solar was founded in Vietnam 11 years ago. The company’s solar panels were one of the few brands explicitly excluded from anti-dumping/countervailing duties on imports from Southeast Asia last year.
