Clean energy developer British Solar Renewables (BSR) has submitted plans for a 30MW solar PV installation to the council in Essex.
Maldon District Council will decide whether to approve planning for the project, located at Bramble Hall Farm in Maldon, Essex. The developer began community engagement on the project in June 2025.
BSR said it expects a net biodiversity gain at the site of 147.1%, in line with its commitment that all its projects will deliver a net biodiversity gain of more than 60%. Essex Ecology, local ecologists who are part of the Essex Wildlife Trust, are working as surveyors on the project and will oversee ecological improvements at the site.
The developer will also establish a community fund of up to £150,000 to support local projects.
BSR aims to develop 7,000 MW of renewable energy by 2027, with this project falling on the small side of the planned build-out. In March this year, the company announced that this was the case acquired a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) from INRG.
Located in Lincolnshire, the Little Crow solar plus storage project will feature a 150 MWp solar facility plus a 60 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), with planning permission granted by the Planning Inspectorate in 2022. BSR said this would be the largest solar PV project in its portfolio, which currently stands at around 700 MWp in the UK.
Since then, the integrated developer has created a £345 million debt facility for a portfolio of 12 solar and co-located solar BESS projects, with a combined capacity of 609MWbuilding on the first portfolio financing round for a portfolio of five projects in the UK and Australia, acquired a year earlier.
