The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy is preparing to launch a tender on September 2 and provide Capex support for the construction and commissioning of 3 GWh of standalone energy storage facilities. The public call concerns projects equal to or larger than 10 MW with a minimum of two hours of storage capacity, which will mainly be used in the frequency regulation markets.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Energy has initiated public consultations on a tender for the construction of infrastructure for the storage of electricity from renewable energy sources.

The tender procedure, called RESTORE, will provide a total of BGN 1.2 billion ($657 million) for the construction and commissioning of a national infrastructure of renewable energy storage facilities with a minimum capacity of 3,000 MWh of usable energy, the ministry said in a press release release on Wednesday.

The subsidy covers a maximum of 50% of the eligible costs, but does not exceed 371,600 BGN (excluding VAT) for each megawatt hour of usable energy capacity, the procedural rules stipulate.

The public call concerns projects equal to or larger than 10 MW with a minimum of two hours of storage capacity, which will mainly be used in the frequency regulation markets.
