The government of Burkina Faso Has formalized a public-private partnership with the developer Gutami Holding, based in the Netherlands, for a 50 MW solar project with 50 MWh in accompanying storage of battery energy.
There is also a 25-year-old electricity purchase agreement between Gutami and the national utility company of the country, Sonabel, which will see the energy produced in the factory that is delivered to the National Grid.
According to a statement published by the international law firm Mayer Brown, who advised Gutami on the transaction, all important approvals for the project, including permits, licenses and land rights, are already secure.
The site, which becomes one of the largest solar projects in West -Africa ever operational, is planned for commercial operation in 2027.
According to figures published by the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena), Burkina Faso had deployed 206 MW of Zonne Energy towards the end of the previous year.
