The first phase of the Huadian Xinjiang Kashgar, the largest independent storage project in China, was put into use on July 19. The 500 MW/ 2 GWH factory represents the first phase of the mega project that double its size to 1 GW/ 4 GWH.

The project is 41 kilometers east of Kashgar, Xinjiang and comprises 119,000 square meters and represents a total investment of approximately CNY 1.6 billion ($ 222.9 million).

The facility consists of 100 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) energy storage units. It uses an innovative split approach, with half of the systems using grid-forming inverters and the other half that works with grid-following inverters. The factory is connected to the Kashgar 750 kV substation via a transmission line of 220 kV, which guarantees integration into the regional grid.
