Comstock Metals, a solar panel recycler with a delivery facility in Kings County, Californiahas received approval from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control to join a list of recognized companies as universal waste recyclers that can process solar panels. Waste solar panels can be sent to the factory in California, and Comstock will then send the panels to the full recycling facility in Nevada.

“Opening a facility in California will allow us to better meet the region’s increasing demand for waste solar panel disposal while providing a streamlined, cost-effective logistics solution for our customers,” said Dr. Fortunato Villamagna, president of Comstock Metals. “Our mission is to close the loop on solar energy by ensuring that the environmental liabilities associated with these aging panels are safely, cleanly and completely eliminated, keeping them out of landfills and ultimately into our natural waters and broader ecosystems.”

Comstock is also completing permit applications and preparing submission plans for a second, integrated, industrial-scale facility in Nevada, with final site selection expected later this month.

“As the number of discarded solar panels nationwide rises into the tens and ultimately hundreds of millions, our ability to scale responsibly and efficiently ensures meaningful sustainability results and confidence for our customers and partners,” said Corrado De Gasperis, Executive Chairman and CEO of Comstock. “Our team is setting a new benchmark for solar panel recycling through a growing, fully integrated national network.”
