Intelligent energy management company Eaton announces the AbleEdge home energy management system, which provides homeowners and installers with a comprehensive, quick-to-install and fully integrated solution to facilitate a safe energy transition. Eaton’s suite of home energy management solutions supports new levels of flexibility and energy resiliency with configurations for renovation and new construction projects, enabled by next-generation smart circuit breakers, microgrid interconnect equipment and smart panels.

The residential segment does is expected to install 10 GW of storage in the US between 2024 and 2028 according to Wood Mackenzie. Eaton’s Home as a Grid approach and new AbleEdge technologies simplify the energy transition in homes and provide smart solutions that make it easier to reduce carbon footprint, keep power on and support the grid. Importantly, Eaton’s AbleEdge home energy management system is designed for interoperability with any residential energy storage and solar system in North America through an open application programming interface (APIs) and multiple communication options for the microgrid connection device.

“We offer flexible, cost-effective options to add solar and energy storage at home, minimizing equipment and maximizing functionality, without replacing your electrical panels. We first delivered breakthrough smart breakers to enable new levels of intelligence and scalability, and our AbleEdge ecosystem will transform Eaton’s new and existing home infrastructure. Now you can rely on Eaton for even more flexibility in home energy systems,” said Paul Ryan, general manager of Connected Solutions and EV Charging at Eaton. “And we are working closely with the biggest names in solar and home energy storage to accelerate a more sustainable, electrified future.”

Eaton’s AbleEdge home energy management system makes it easier to install distributed energy resources (DERs), extend battery life and enable seamless transition to backup power sources during power outages. The company’s modular approach reduces the number of equipment and installation time through a complementary and fully integrated range of solutions that can be added to any Eaton BR load center and meter breaker. The AbleEdge ecosystem includes:

  • Eaton AbleEdge smart breakers use industry-first load management technology to extend battery life
  • Eaton AbleEdge microgrid connection device enables a seamless transition from grid power to an energy storage system that can be retrofitted to existing Eaton meter breakers
  • Eaton AbleEdge critical loads and combination cabinet panels with flexible configurations that meet virtually endless installation and retrofit requirements

Eaton will demonstrate its innovative products and solutions that enable safe, reliable and sustainable energy – including the AbleEdge home energy management system – at RE+ 24 booth D32011 in Anaheim, California from September 10 to 12.
