EDF Power Solutions has announced today (July 3) that it has taken over a large solar development of Low Carbon.
The Gate Burton Energy Park is a 500 MW solar PV energy center that is currently under development. Due to its size, the project is classified as a nationally important infrastructure project (NSIP); In July 2024 it received approval of the planning as part of the NSIP approval of Energie -Secretary Ed Miliband in the days after his appointment. The site also contains a co-location storage system for battery energy (BESS), although it has not yet been announced how much capacity it will have.
EDF Power Solutions – formerly known as EDF Renewables – currently has a number of other NSIPs for solar and storage in its portfolio.
These include the 800 MW Springwell Solar Farm, which is currently in the research phase of the Development Consent Order (DCO) process, which was accepted by the planning inspection by the Planning Inspectorate in December last year, as well as the Rosefield Solar Farm, a Solar NSIP Property has not protected its capacity in capacity The Rosefield Solar Farm is expected to submit a DCO application later this year.
Roy Bedlow, founder and chief executive at Low Carbon, called the sale a “milestone” that “marks the next step for Gate Burton” and will “help the UK to set off to reach its Clean Power 2030 Ambition”.
He added: “With a strong pipeline in development, we remain strongly dedicated to supporting the British clean energy ambitions and building a resilient, sustainable future”.
Matthew Boulton, director of Solar, Storage and Private Wire for EDF Power Solutions UK, agreed that adding the project to EDF’s Portfolio ‘is a good example of how we [EDF] Scales solar energy and storage to meet the future energy needs of the UK ”.
The market of Low Carbon is moving
Low Carbon currently has a 16GW development portfolio in the United Kingdom, Europe and Noord -America, and this is not the first major assiva purchase that Low Carbon has done in recent weeks.
Last month, the Independent Power Producer (IPP) sold a pipeline of eight ready-made solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 350 MW, as well as two energy storage projects with a total of 85 MW capacity, to French energy major Totaleenergies.
Updates for Companies Huis revealed that at least three of these projects – the 39 MW Callie’s Solar Farm, the 49.9 MW Longlands Solar Farm and the 34 MW Tree Solar Farm – Secure Contracts for Difference (CFDS) in the 2024 Allocation Farm Landing ALLARDAM ATHAM ATHAMS 4.
More recently, Low Carbon connects its own assets with the British grid. Last week the company announced that it had successfully confirmed four new Solar PV-energy plants 21mw Pepperhill project, the 19MW Long Meadow Development, the 49.9 MW Feldon Vale PV factory, and the 39 MW Bess Factory-from which also has a 30 MW-BES-FACTORY of the latter.
