Energy supplier EDF launched a market first for solar energy yesterday (June 12), with daily off-peak discounts and zero fixed costs or exit fees.

The Empower Exclusive rate is available exclusively to new customers who install a solar panel and battery bundle through EDF’s solar installer Contact Solar. The annual inductor offering marks the first of its exclusive solar net-zero home product and rate bundles.

In addition to zero fixed costs, the time-of-use tariff helps customers save money and reduce carbon emissions by providing three hours of discounted CO2-neutral electricity every day between 1am and 4am.

As part of the deal, EDF and Contact Solar are offering £500 off new solar panel and battery installations for the first 500 customers who sign up for the bundle, with nothing payable until the system is fully installed.

As discussed before Solar energy portalEDF acquired Chorley-based solar panel and battery installer Contact Solar in mid-February 2024 as part of a plan to scale up its renewable energy installations business.

Philippe Commaret, Managing Director of Customers at EDF, said: “We know that more and more people are looking for ways to save money and CO2. That’s why we are happy to bring this unique bundle of solar energy products to the market.

“Working closely with Contact Solar, we look forward to helping more customers enjoy the benefits of solar panels, offering them a fantastic end-to-end installation service and significant savings on household bills.”
