Weekly average electricity prices fell on most major European markets last week, according to ALEASOFT Energy Prognosing.

The consultancy registered the price falls in the Belgian, British, Dutch, French, German, Nordic, Portuguese and Spanish markets, where the Italian market is the only exception.

Averages in all analyzed markets, except the British and Italian markets, fell under € 85 ($ 91.56)/MWH. The British average was € 107.21/MWH and Italy was € 123.25/MWh. The Nordic market had the lowest weekly average, at € 29.68/MWh.

ALEASOFT attributed the price decrease in reducing the demand for electricity and the production of a higher wind energy, despite an increase in CO2 emission provision prices. However, Italy saw a higher demand and the production of lower wind energy, which led to higher prices there.

ALEASOFT predicts that electricity prices will rise again in most markets in the fourth week of March.

The consultancy also reported an increase in solar energy production in France, Germany and Italy in the third week of March.

Each country established new records for solar production for a day in March. France produced 120 GWH on March 18, Germany reached 324 GWH and Italy the same day registered 121 GWH on March 20. These levels last took place in August and September of the previous year.

ALEASOFT predicts the production of solar energy in Spain in the fourth week of March, after a decrease from the last week, while expected in Germany and Italy.
