US-based solar panel manufacturer Endurans Solar has achieved IEC 62788-2-1:2023 certification for its new D15T transparent back plate product, as part of the full validation of the D15 series safety standard by the accredited independent testing laboratory TÜV Rheinland.
Designed specifically for large-scale bifacial solar applications, the D15T backplate provides a powerful, lightweight alternative to standard rear glass, which directly translates to significant cost savings and project efficiency.
The D15T backplate can provide panel manufacturers with cost savings through weight savings. Replacing the 2mm thick glass on the back with the transparent polymer solution reduces the overall weight of the module, which can impact the BOS costs of the project as less steel may be required for trackers and foundations.
For insurers and financiers, the D15T enables the use of thicker, more robust front glass without the standard weight loss of a glass-to-glass module. This results in improved resistance to hail and microcracks, reducing the risk to the long-term performance of the project and ensuring greater bankability. There is also an improved lifetime yield thanks to the unique high performance polyolefin (HPO) backsheet technology.
Manufactured domestically in New Hampshire, the Endurans Solar D15T product provides critical benefits to module manufacturers and developers navigating a volatile trading environment.
“Our unique U.S.-made backsheets provide domestic module manufacturers with improved supply chain stability and give developers the ability to increase their domestic content ratio – providing a critical strategic advantage for projects targeting tax credits and U.S. government procurement requirements,” said Nate Coleman, CEO of Endurans Solar.
