enSights has announced it is launching a new BESS calculator to enable developers and asset owners to take full advantage of the vast energy storage sector by optimizing battery size for maximum financial returns based on energy market and grid support capabilities. Replacing the expensive and labor-intensive BESS system design, the calculator instantly generates financial projections and recommends the ideal battery size and operating modes to introduce economies of scale in battery deployment. The calculator provides insight into decision-making and presents simple visualizations of energy and cash flow.

“While the rapidly growing energy storage market offers many opportunities, it still faces significant challenges, such as high capital costs, energy price volatility and variable incentive structures,” said Alon Mashkovich, co-founder and CEO of enSights. “We developed our storage calculator not only to mitigate these risks for decision makers, but also to make BESS design cost-effective so that energy stakeholders can capture market opportunities while maximizing battery life.”

The new BESS calculator uses a proprietary model to balance maximizing returns over the life of the asset with optimizing battery life by taking into account critical battery specifications and degradation parameters such as depth of discharge (DoD), round-trip efficiency (RTE), and charge and discharge cycles. Using the unique battery utilization algorithm based on real data, the battery calculator supports a variety of value stacking capabilities, including increased PV self-consumption and demand charge reduction for energy consumers, energy arbitrage and voltage support for ISO/RTO services and transmission congestion. lighting for utilities.

“When customers on our platform confided to us that the complexity of battery optimization was severely limiting and delaying storage deployment as part of their clean energy portfolios, we decided to develop a solution to help them overcome these challenges,” said Roy Fadida, co-founder and CPO of andSights. “Since beta testing our BESS calculator, these select customers have significantly accelerated their battery deployment to meet growing demand in one of the fastest growing storage markets.”

The storage calculator supports battery deployment with and without PV connections and provides accurate recommendations on optimal battery size and PV capacity to improve IRR. When batteries designed by the enSights calculator are also deployed on the optimization platform, these energy storage solutions can further benefit from enSights’ advanced AI monitoring and management technology to realize their full value.
