EU update list with priority cross-border projects for renewable Energie-PV Magazine International

The list of thirteen cross-border projects for sustainable energy is eligible for construction or scholarships under the Connecting Europe facility.

The European Commission has added to the list of cross -border projects for renewable energy.

According to An update Posted on the Commission website, the projects in the list receive a special status that offers more visibility, in addition to being eligible for subsidies for studies or construction under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).

After a call for proposals that took place between September 2024 and January 2025, five new cross -border projects for renewable energy were selected. Before they were added to the list, each project was assessed by external experts, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environmental Executive Agency (Cinea) and the European Commission to review their cost-effective exploitation of renewable energy.

The latest projects to be added to the list are two wind projects in the Baltic States, a district of heating project between the German city of Frankfurt (Oder) and the Polish city of Słubice, an offshore research into renewable energy between Portugal and Luxembourg and a renewable energy project between Italy, Algerije and Tunesia. Known as Medlink, wants to use the last project About 10 GW Zonne, onshore wind and battery energy storage in the two North African countries for both local use and exports.

To be eligible for admission to the list, a project must include an agreement between two or more EU member states or between one or more Member States in addition to one or more third countries. There are now thirteen projects for renewable energy that have to do with the cross -border projects of the EUs renewable energy under CEF.

The EU has supported cross -border solar projects through other financing mechanisms. The first cross-border Zonne-Zonne-Zon of the Blok has been launched in April 2023 Under the EU finance mechanism for renewable energy. It saw Cinea test agreements with Seven Solar projects Throughout Finland with a combined capacity of 212.99 MW, with funds from Luxembourg.

A second cross-border solar task came in July 2024. The result The tender was announced in May, to support another seven solar projects in Finland in addition to two wind projects in Estonia.
