Europe launches pilot to improve market transparency – SPE

The European Commission says it has started work on a new pilot mechanism, and Italy has agreed to expand cooperation with Austria and Germany, while supporting cooperation between Italian companies and Finland’s Wärtsilä.

the European Commission has started work on a pilot mechanism to collect, process and make accessible information on the supply and demand of renewable, low-carbon hydrogen and derivatives, to support the continent’s hydrogen market. “The new mechanism has been created under the recently adopted low-carbon gases and hydrogen package And aims to accelerate investments by providing a clearer picture of the market situation of both buyers and suppliers and facilitating contacts between them,” said the European Commission. “It will exist for five years and become part of the European Hydrogen Bank.”

Germany, Austria and Italy have agreed to jointly develop the SouthH2 Corridor. “The SouthH2 Corridor will play in play an important role, especially when it comes to supplying green hydrogen to our southern states.” said German Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Robert Habeck. He explained that the corridor will transport hydrogen from North Africa to hydrogen demand hubs in Italy, Austria and Germany. Wärtsila said it has joined Gas and Heat and Italian classification society RINA to develop an ammonia-powered bunker ship. Gas and Heat will design the cargo handling system, while Wärtsilä will design an optimized integrated propulsion solution, with its new four-stroke engine-based ammonia fuel solution, said RINA.

Johannes Cockerill said it has signed binding commitments with SLB, SFPIM and Wallonie Entrepredrendre for a capital increase of €230 million ($250.5 million). SLB is leading John Cockerill Hydrogen’s financing round, which is expected to close in June 2024. This fundraising round supports John Cockerill Hydrogen’s strategy, including the rollout of massive factories in key locations. Shell said yes another contract awarded Ceres for the second phase of their collaboration to design a solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) module for large-scale industrial applications such as synthetic fuels, ammonia and green steel. Ceres has been working with Shell since 2022, leading to the implementation of a 1 MW SOEC system at Shell’s R&D facility in Bangalore, India. The new contract focuses on the development of a pressure module design that can be scaled to hundreds of megawatts and integrated with industrial installations to produce sustainable fuels. said Ceres.
