Aggrow has successfully completed a transfer of tax credit for a solar project on the roof in a carpet factory in Pennsylvania-a much-needed energy source for the factory that would not have been possible without stimuli from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Bloomsburg Carpet Industries In Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, there is a third -generation manufacturer for iconic institutions, including the house and senate rooms of the US Capitol, the American Supreme Court, Radio City Music Hall and Carnegie Hall. With the installation of a 1.49 MW of solar energy system on the roof of the factory, Bloomsburg reduced operational overhead and energy costs drastically.

With more than 30 looms that work daily, the energy requirements of Bloomsburg are considerable. CFO Adam Bowman saw that inactivity would expose the company to the higher energy costs that warn analysts of the energy industry will be the result of a historical increase in the electricity demand that unfolds in the United States. Industry experts project the demand for electricity in 2030 by 25%, leading to higher electricity prices for consumers. The annual cost increases can be amazing for manufacturers such as Bloomsburg.

Bowman led the effort to bring clean energy to the roof of the company to prevent this ballooning energy costs. A combination of stimuli had started going solar energy more attractive. But it was ultimately the successful sale and transfer of the tax credits that were generated by the solar installation that received the financing.

With just under $ 2.2 million in qualification costs, the solar system on the Bloomsburg roof earned around $ 660,000 in investment tax loans (ITC). Under the IRA, the ITC has been made transferable, which means that taxpayers such as Bloomsburg can sell their credits to investors after the project has been put into use. This allows small companies such as Bloomsburg to rely less on debt financing to get their projects off the ground.

Bowman initially tried to find a buyer for the credits itself. But as an independent, family business, he encountered problems: buyers were worried about the potential risk of recapturing tax credit. According to the law, if a company is forced to sell it actively that the tax credits has generated within five years, some or all credits can be “recaptured” by the IRS. For this reason, buyers prefer sellers with a track record of long -term projects and sufficient assets to cover compensation. Bowman discovered that, although Bloomsburg carpet had enjoyed good financial status, buyers were still shots.

Then he turned to Evergrow for help in finding a buyer and navigating the required tax credit diligence process. Evergrow uses technology to partially automate the eagle process, making it easier for non-experts such as Bowman to offer documentation and complete the process. The company also supplies buyers of an IJgerantie-What means buyers for any recondition-related losses. Designed to overcome exactly the kind of barriers that Bowman had confronted when he tried to go alone, the Evergrow guarantee offers the buyers of the tax credit complete certainty that they will be reimbursed in the unlikely event of an IRS reconiation.

“Evergrow was on our side all the time,” said Bowman. “The Evergrow guarantee was really essential – I don’t think the deal would have been done without this.”

The impact of the project is already being felt. Bloomsburg now saves around $ 200,000 a year on electricity costs, plus an extra $ 50,000 per year from the Pennsylvania’s Solar Renewable Energy Certificate (SREC) program. These savings, together with an improved Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) score, strengthen Bloomsburg’s environmental leadership in the textile industry. More details about the transaction are available in this case Study published on Evergrow’s website.

“We are proud of supporting manufacturers of family businesses such as Bloomsburg carpet in their transition to clean energy,” said James Richards, CEO of Evergrow. “This project is a model for how commercial and industrial companies of every size can fully benefit from stimuluses of clean energy such as the ITC – with the right financial partner.”
