The Storio Energy of France, which develops solutions for energy storage and management for the business-to-business market, has released new figures showing that May 2025 confirmed a trend that was observed for a few months: electricity prices on the French spot market reach zero or negative levels.

The company said that 90% of the days in May registered a minimum price of zero or lower. Only three days did this trend escape, with a somewhat positive prices on average no more than € 3.50/MWh.

Storio Energy largely attributed the phenomenon to the overproduction of the afternoon solar energy that fares the question.

“We are confronted with a real energy point. Consumers still have little or no incentive to move their consumption to these very affordable hours,” argued Jean-Yves Stephan, CEO and co-founder of Storio Energy. “This is a historical opportunity for manufacturers who can adjust quickly.”

In May, a period of six hours from 11 a.m. (CEST) to 5 p.m. registered on average strictly negative prices for the first time. On 1 May at 2 p.m. the bargain price reached-€ 118/m To better coordinate the offer and the offer, 11 million of the 14.5 million households with peak/off-peak options-accident 40% of all household-hun off-peak hours shifted in the summer, with a maximum of three hours to between 11 am and 5 pm

Storio Energy said that price volatility also increases considerably. Since the beginning of 2025, the average daily spread between minimum and maximum prices has been € 95/MWh. While the average electricity price for May fell to € 19/m

“This discrepancy reflects the persistence of structural tensions on the network in the evening,” said Storio Energy.
