Solaveni, a German fine chemical manufacturer and spin-off from Polish Perovskite PV module manufacturer Saule Technologies, commercializes a Protic Ionian liquid technology that allows stable, water-based halide perovskiet inks that are suitable for scalable thin film production processes

The use of Solaveni’s Protic Ionian liquid technology was recently demonstrated in solar cells with a maximum of 10% power conversion efficiency by a team of researchers led by Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin Für Materials und Energie GmbH (HZB). The work was detailed in “tOward green processing of perovskiet solar cells: Protic Ionian liquids make water and alcohol-based Mapbi3-Voorlopers inks possible for lock-that coating possible“Recently published in Advanced energy materials.

The team made reverse Mapbi3 sun cells via a one-step final-DIE coating process under environmental conditions. Moreover, the work was done without the use of dangerous solvents such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and Dimethylformamide (DMF). The new ink formulations also appeared to have extensive plank stability, an important feature for scalable production.

The combination is so far unique, according to the scientists, who stated that their work “represents the first report of a water-based green ink formulation for a thin film coating in room temperature conditions by Slot-Die Coating.” They emphasized the reduced toxicity, lower environmental effects compared to DMF-based inks and the thin-step thin film coating process in room temperature conditions using scalable slot-die-coating.

“The result of the collaboration was the water -based ink system, and we have contributed the Protic Ionian liquid that is needed to prepare the ink system. In the near future we are planning to launch the sale of Protic Ionian liquids,” Senol Oez, CEO of Solaveni, said ” PV Magazine.

For the research, the Solaveni team prepared a series of Protic Ionian liquids based on methylammonium (MA, CH3NH3+) and carbon acids to obtain methylammonium size (MAF), methylammonium acetate (MAA) and methylammonium propion (folder). These were investigated with co-solving agents when processing solutions from perovskites.

Protic Ionian liquids are salts in liquid form at room temperature, below 100 ° C to be precise. “They are formed by proton transfer from a Brønsted acid to a foundation,” Uz explained. They make it possible to resolve Perovskietvoorlopers in non-toxic solvents such as water and alcohol.

“They offer adjustable polarity, low volatility and are ideal for green chemistry and printable electronics,” said Uz.

In the HZB study, the reverse perovskiet solar cell stack was as follows: Glass, Indium Tinoxide (ITO), 2pacz hole transport layer, Mapbi₃ Perovskietabsorber, Buckminerfullerene (C60), a Bathocupraine (BCP) Buffer Army and a buyer (CU) Metal.

Solaveni also offers perovskiet precursors and functional oxides of green chemistry, which supplies it to research institutions, pilot line developers and companies that scale up the next generation of photovoltaic and energy solutions on the internet (IoT).

The manufacture of solar cells is the most common application of its materials. “However, we also see the growing interest in applications such as Perovskiet -Led’s and photo detectors,” said Uz. The “strongest question” is from Europe and East Asia, in particular of research groups and industrial developers aimed at Tandem, Single Junction Perovskite PV, as well as on light applications.

The startup continues to collaborate with German HZB and Humboldt University as part of the Solartap Research Program. It is planning to examine metal oxides suspensions such as Tin (IV) oxide (SNO2) and Nickel oxide (NIOX) for cheap, low temperature, solution -based processes of hybrid electronics and photovoltaic.

Solaveni GmbH was founded in July 2021 as a spider -off from parent company Saule Technologies to concentrate on sustainable and scalable materials for perovskiet Opto -electronics.
