Green with fluoride-amplified perovskiet solar cells

A team of scientists from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) has unveiled a sustainable method for manufacturing perovskite solar cells (PSCs) by using a fluoride -based additive in a solution for water alone. This innovation replaces dangerous solvents that are usually used in the PSC production, which achieves a remarkable power conversion -efficiency of more than 18%.

Perovskiet solar cells have emerged as a promising technology for the future of solar energy, thanks to their high efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Nevertheless, their commercial scalability is hindered by the dangers of the environment and health by conventional toxic solvents used during production. Although water -based methods offer a more sustainable route, they have subsequently subsed them when delivering highly efficient devices.

To overcome this barrier, QUT researchers introduced Lead (II) Fluoride (PBF2) in the aqueous precursor mix. This additive plays a dual role: it speeds up the formation of the light -absorbing phase and lies out the crystallization process to optimize the light conversion. The fluoride ions also passivate surface faults in the perovskiet granules, so that load loss is minimized and the conductivity is improved.

“With the PBF2 ADDDIEK we have achieved a power conversion -efficiency of 18.1% compared to 16.3% in the control device,” Dr. Minh Tam Hoang, a postgraduate researcher at QUT and the main author of the study. “Even more exciting is the improved operational and environmental stability, which brings us closer to scalable, green production of PSCs.”

This progress means a meaningful shift in the development of solar cells from Perovskiet and offers a route to produce efficient and sustainable solar modules through environmentally friendly processes. The results show the value of fluoride -based chemistry in promoting both performance and sustainability in solar technologies.
