Edify Energy said that the 185 MW / 370 MWH Koorangie Battery Energy Storage System in northwestern Victoria has started exporting to the Raster with Hold -Point tests now underway while it works for the full generation.

Designed and developed by Edify but ownership of Italian Energy Infrastructure Investder Sostoneo Infrastructure PartnersThe Koorangie battery is provided Tesla Megapacks Equipped with scheduled inverter technology with which it can play a double role, offers both energy storage and system strength services, which means that the amount of inverters-based sources, such as solar and wind energy, which can be hosted in the Murray River region, can be hosted in the Murray River region with a maximum of 300 MW.

The Victorian government said that granting technology will help the state achieve its energy storage goals and support the transition to renewable energy by offering stability to the grid.

“With the grid-forming inverters, the battery can replace the type of system strength services that were once only provided by fossil fuel generators,” said it. “This game-changing technology is an important progress in the transition to renewable energy sources, because it further reduces the dependence on aging coal-fired generators.”

The Koorangie battery has a 20-year-old secured System support agreement With the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to offer 125 MW of system strength services to improve network stability in the region.

The battery is also supported by a purchase agreement of 15 years with Shell Energy Australia.

The Victorian government has laid down by law Storage goals From at least 2.6 GW by 2030 and at least 6.3 GW by 2035 – enough renewable energy to feed about half of the current houses of Victoria with their peak energy consumption.

The Koorangie Battery Project is the first investment in Australia for Sosteneo, which is supported by Italian-in-investments in Generali, one of the world’s largest asset managers and insurance conglomerates.

Sosteneo was launched in September 2023 with a focus on stock investments in Greenfield infrastructure projects with regard to the energy transition. Since then it has been Global portfolio has grown to more than 4 GWh of battery storage capacity under construction or in three countries.
