Guyana’s Solar Photovoltaic Home Energy Systems Project has added 4.8 MW installed capacity in ten administrative regions since its foundation in July 2023.
The amount of solar energy used by Guyana‘S Solar Photovoltaic Home Energy Systems Project has reached 4.8 MW, according to statistics released by the country’s government.
The off-grid solar project, launched in July 2023, is intended to expand the access of renewable energy in the hinterland and river communities that are not connected to the electricity grid.
It works on supplying and supplying 30,000 solar -PV Home Energy units in total, where each system is designed to power two 9 W LED lamps and a stand -alone fan of 12 W with power. The systems are also equipped with a USB port for charging portable electronic devices.
The 4.8 MW solar appearance installed so far over ten administrative regions and benefits of more than 245 communities and more than 136,000 people. An additional 7,300 home energy systems are distributed among households throughout the country as part of the expansion of the project, adds the last update of the government.
Samantha Jonas, deputy Toshao of the village of Moco Moco in West Guyana, says that the solar system has given its reliable lighting to work at ease, while she enables her family to complete household tasks and offer her children opportunities to do homework and enjoy recreational activities.
“Solar panels are an effective way to produce electricity,” said Jonas. “It not only helps to protect the environment, but it also gives free electricity to the houses and families to use it if needed.”
The solar capacity of Guyana reached 17 MW at the end of 2024, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).
In May the country approved a GYD 885 million ($ 4.2 million) investment Retrofit Solar Soles About 21 Amerindian villages. More recently, it introduced one Net invoicing program For solar systems on the roof up to 100 kW.
