British renewable energy developer Harmony Energy wants to deliver France’s largest battery energy storage system (BESS) – the Cheviré project – using Tesla Megapack technology.

The 100 MW project will represent a major milestone for the French energy system as it is the country’s first large-scale two-hour battery, the developer said. Construction will begin soon and the system is expected to be fully operational in winter 2025.

Located in the port of Nantes Saint-Nazaire, on a site previously occupied by the Cheviré power plant, which was operational from 1954 to 1986 and powered by coal, gas and oil, the Cheviré BESS will provide enough electricity to estimate To provide 170,000 households with electricity for two people. hours – larger than the population of the city of Nantes.

The project will provide crucial balancing services to the French electricity grid and enable the replacement of fossil fuels with renewable energy.

It will leverage Tesla Megapack and Autobidder technology, the battery maker’s real-time trading platform that allows BESS owners and operators to configure operational strategies in an effort to maximize revenue based on their business objectives and risk preferences.
