On November 18, community members, partners and local leaders gathered in Reddick, Florida, as PPM Solar hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the project’s completion. DeConna Ice Cream new ground mounted solar system with 794 kW ballast. The project was supported by federal tax credits and a USDA REAP grant secured with assistance from PPM Solar.

Founded in 1947 by WWII veteran Don “Big Daddy” DeConna, the company has grown into a staple brand in the southeastern United States, with product distribution in 23 states. Under the leadership of third-generation president Nick DeConna, the company continues to expand with sustainability and energy independence at the forefront.

“We are always looking for ways to innovate – not only in our products, but also in the way we work,” said Nick DeConna. “Moving to solar will allow us to stabilize our energy costs, reduce our carbon footprint and support the long-term efficiency of all our operations.”

The installation now offsets ~65% of DeConna’s annual electricity consumption and powers the majority of operations at the Reddick distribution facility.

“This project will give DeConna stable, predictable energy costs for decades,” said Jason Gonos, co-founder and president of PPM Solar.
“It is a powerful example of how traditional companies can embrace modern clean energy solutions without compromising financial performance.”
