India faces a huge one need for energy storage to equalize supply from the booming solar sector, and the storage pipeline of projects just got bigger with the latest announcement from energy company JSW Energy.

The company has started a BESS project for which it was commissioned a SECI tender in 2022. The standalone, grid-tied battery energy storage facility consists of two segments, each with a storage capacity of 500 MWh, designed for two hours of storage in one cycle.

JSW Energy will develop under a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) mechanism. After twelve years, the project is handed over to the customer.

JSW Energy is also leading the development of the country’s first commercial-scale green hydrogen project. The facility will be used for making green steel. It has signed a seven-year green hydrogen supply agreement with JSW Steel Ltd 3,800 tons per year (tpa), together with associated green oxygen.
