Italy’s regional governments approved 5.1 GW of utility-scale solar projects in the first nine months of this year, according to data collected by pv magazine Italy.

The Italian authorities have released 126 single permits (AU) and 604 simplified permit procedures (PAS).

pv magazine

The October edition of pv magazinewhich releases tomorrow, focuses on the solar and storage trends evident in India, especially in the manufacturing segment; takes into account the boom in large-scale batteries in Australia; and it takes time to investigate PV market developments in off-the-beaten-path countries such as Iran and Pakistan.

Sicily has allowed the most solar capacity at 1.31 GW, followed by Puglia with 923.1 MW and Lazio with 412.2 MW. In terms of power, however, the figures are fairly balanced: 2.73 GW of PV projects have been greenlit via AU and 2.35 MW via PAS.

The region that has allocated the highest amount to AU is Sicily (36), while Puglia stands out for the number of PAS (148) which far surpasses Emilia-Romagna (65) and Abruzzo (54).

The regions that have not approved any PV installation so far this year are Trentino-Alto Adige and Valle d’Aosta.
