The Buckhorn Children and Family Services – Rogers Cottage Recovery House, a 12-bedroom rehabilitation center for adult women in Perry County, Kentucky, is taking a major step toward environmental sustainability by doubling the size of its solar panels. With the addition of a new 26.9 kW array, the system now delivers a total power of 47.4 kW.

This expansion, made possible through a partnership between Everybody Solar, HOMES and Mountain Association, will generate an additional 36,724 kWh of clean electricity annually, which will have a significant impact on the environment. The original project, completed a few years ago with Everybody Solar at the helm, was initially approved for a larger scale. With Buckhorn securing the initial financing, Everybody Solar’s crucial support in closing the financial gap made this expansion a reality.

The financial savings from this expanded solar installation will be strategically reinvested in essential services and programs at Rogers Cottage. These savings will support a variety of impactful outcomes, including maintaining daily activities and providing critical resources to recovery program participants, such as transportation for outdoor activities, job interview preparation, life skills training, professional development, and job support mental health care.

“Our partnership with Everybody Solar aligns perfectly with our mission to provide a sanctuary of healing and hope,” said Billy Smith, CEO of Buckhorn Children & Family Services, which operates Rogers Cottage. “Doubling our solar capacity will not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also allow us to reinvest savings into improving the lives of those we serve.”
