The Flexell Space, which is located in South Korea, a spin-off from Hanwha Systems, a business unit of Defense and Space Solutions from the Hanwha Group in South Korea, develops Perovskite-Copper Indium Gallium Selenide (CIGS) Tandem Solar Technology for satellites and other space passages.

In anticipation of testing in the Orbit for later this year, the risk capital has put forward and signed various cooperation agreements, including a transfer of technology with the Korea Institute of Energy Research (Kier).

In August, Kier and Flexell Space announced a CIGS process-related technology transfer agreement on the Climate Industry International Expo 2025. The project is appreciated on WFD 5.5 billion ($ 3.95 million), Taehun (Tim) AHN, founder and CEO of Flexell Space, confirmed to PV Magazine.

The two work together on CIGS-PEROVSKITE Tandem devices on ultra-light weight and flexible substrates.

In recent months, KIER announced a CIGS device on Ultradun glass with a record-breaking efficiency of 17.81%.

Earlier in the same month, a Perovskiet-Cigs tandem cell was reported on a flexible substrate with an efficiency of 23.64%. These tandem devices had a higher power-per-weight ratio than perovskiet-silicon tandem solar cells, according to the researchers.

Executives of Flexell Space see opportunities for lightweight, non-brown, highly efficient, large perovskiet-cigs panels to compete with established solar technologies in the Space PV market.

Opposite that goal, the technology of the company will be mounted on a small satellite from Inha University, the inha -rollable solar panel test bed (inharosat), for testing in a job. It is planned to be part of the fourth Korea Space Launch vehicle that is planned for November.

Flexell Space, founded in 2024, has signed various development and validation agreements with space companies, such as the US-based Terran Orbital, Germany-based Airbus Defense and Space GmbH, Italy-based D-Orbit and DHV technology in Spain.

In March, the company announced to collect $ 5 million in risk capital from a group of investors established in South Korea to obtain advanced equipment and to accelerate its technology for space and commercial solar markets. The group included LK Chem, Interest, L & S venture capital and Quad Ventures.
