The LG electronics of South Korea said it will collaborate with the British Octopus energy in the heat pumping activities in Europe.
“The partnership will combine the advanced, highly efficient heating and cooling solutions from LG with the AI-driven energy software platform from Octopus Energy, Kraken, to speed up the transition to sustainable energy in Europe,” LG said in a statement. “Through this collaboration, LG and Octopus Energy will launch a joint solution that integrates the highly efficient heat pumps from LG with the Kraken platform in important European markets, including the UK and Germany.”
The AI-driven Kraken-Platform has surpassed 2 GW in managed capacity, making it the world’s largest virtual power plant based on private households, according to Octopus Energy. The platform now connects more than 500,000 devices, including electric vehicles, photovoltaic storage systems for home and heat pumps, automating consumption and reducing voltage on the grid.
Cracking is shifting taxes, such as EV, loading or heat pumping, to periods of low demand and availability of high power, the flattening of peak loads and improving the integration of renewable energy.
“Heat pumps are the pivot of clean, affordable heating and LG makes some of the best on the market,” said Greg Jackson, founder and CEO of Octopus Energy. “By connecting them and their air conditioning units to our Kraken technology, we can make them even cheaper to run, giving households an easy way to reduce their bills while we help the planet.”
