Sarawak Energy Berhad from Malaysia has said it will grant discounts to homeowners who are planning to install PV systems on the roof.

The state -owned company of the State, the only energy company for the state of Sarawak, said that the subsidies will be granted to PV arrays that are active under the Net Energy Measurement (NEM) program of the country, which has recently been upgraded to promote more growth.

According to the new schedule, PV systems with a capacity of up to 3.5 kW get a maximum of Myr 8,000 ($ 1,905) and systems ranging from 3.5 kW to 6 kW get myr 10,000. Moreover, Sarawak Energy will assign a maximum of MYR 12,000 to PV systems with an output of 6 kW to 50 kW.

“The subsidy only applies to successful NEM installations from 2026 under the ‘Domestic rate’ category for landed homes,” the company specified. “It is limited to one installation per account owner and excludes households with pre-installed solar PV systems.”

According to Malaysia’s energy transition and water transformation Ministry (PETRA), around 1.7 GW PV systems are currently active among the NEM programs, with another 595 MW in development.

Last week, Sarawak Energy also announced that it is planning to increase his solar capacity through the ground mounted and floating solar projects.

Sarawak Energy claims to have a generation capacity of approximately 5.9 GW, mainly consisting of its hydroelectric and thermal plants. The state of Sarawak has focused on having 10 GW generation capacity until the end of the decade, mainly from hydropower, solar and biomass energy.
