UK-based 3ti Energy Hubs has launched a portable electric vehicle charging station for 12 cars that it is delivering to commercial and industrial locations where demand exceeds supply.

A British solar parking company, 3ti Energy Hubs, has launched Papilio3, a standardized, portable solar charging station in a carport design with space for twelve electric vehicles.

The Papilio3 system is designed for rapid deployment and is grid-connected with an annual solar energy generation of 18 MWh. It is aimed at short-term parking areas where electric vehicles can be parked for three to six hours, such as hospitals, offices and conference centers.

“Papilio3 is a standard product, with a standard design, it is a quick and simple process and 3ti usually does it on behalf of customers,” says a 3ti spokesperson. pv magazine.

The behind-the-meter system is built around a recycled shipping container and has 42 solar panels and charging stations for twelve electric vehicles, supporting charging from 7 kW to 22 kW. It is available from 3ti on a monthly rental basis. Several reference customers already use the system.

Planning and permitting are usually done by 3ti on behalf of the client. “Because it is installed behind the customer’s meter, there are no delays waiting for new connections and additional measurements; and thanks to our smart microgrid control systems, it also does not require dedicated, reserved capacity,” the spokesperson said.

They added that recent changes to licensing rules in Britain still make it necessary to complete an application per location, but that processing tends to go smoothly as EV charging infrastructure is seen as a way to reduce peak power consumption.

3ti was founded in 2019. It offers a range of solar and energy storage technologies and services. UK customers include Bentley Motors, Silverstone Circuits, Wiltshire Leisure Center and Surrey County Council. The installed base is 9.57 MW of solar PV for 2,500 parking spaces.
