Startup P&E Power & Energy offers multilevel inverter technology to manufacturers and integrators from Battery Energy Storage Systems (Bess). Connecting individual cells makes cost savings possible and the lifetime and efficiency of the systems, which can be configured individually for each application, can be increased.

Demolition of individual battery cells is a driver in Bess who loses storage capacity over time. Small differences in quality, which initially seem minimal, gradually increase and because the cells are connected in series and can only be charged and discharged, if one fails, this influences the performance of the entire string.

With regular balancing at the expense of efficiency, systems that do not require an external inverter are attractive.

Such arrangements, known as “multilevel inverter” concepts, generate a sinus golf by switching or off the current current to individual battery cells.
