PV plants with central inverters mounted on the ground can disable an error in a single string. High failure percentages and complex diagnostic processes make solving problem solving time -consuming and expensive, which increases operating costs.

The Q3 Energie GmbH, based in Germany, has developed a generator connection box or String Combiner Box to tackle these problems. The company said that the device can find errors in a single string and insulate, so that operators can only close the string affected while the rest of the system remains online to maintain overall availability.

The “Q3 Super Multi Box” is a generator connection box that is built for PV systems mounted on the ground. The most important characteristics include the individual string droom measurement for a maximum of 24 inputs and electronic DC insulation power up to 480 A by 1500 V (DC).

In the case of an error, such as an arc or insulation problem, the system first connects all the strings to protect the installation. It then connects them step by step and identifies the exact signing where the error took place. The system isolates the string string while the others can continue to work. This function makes accurate problem solution possible, maintains the availability of the system and supports targeted service planning, which helps to lower operating costs.

The box contains an integrated error manager that supports remote maintenance. Types 1 and 2 Surge Protection with external signal contact adds protection against lightning and voltage peaks. The Q3 Super Multi Box also has fuses on the positive pool and, optionally, on the negative pool, rated at 32 A by 1500 V (DC).

For communication, the box uses multiple interfaces, including Modbus TCP/IP, RS485, Ethernet and USB. MC4 EVO2 connectors protect the power supply, making simple and reliable connections possible. Solar energy drives the electronics, while an integrated battery maintains communication options at night. With an IP66 rating, the system is resistant to dust and water, making it suitable for outdoor use.

Q3 Energie starts the series production of the Q3 Super Multi Box in the third quarter of 2025. Project -specific planning and quotes are already available. The company is also planning to collaborate with manufacturers of central inverters to improve the integration and optimization of the system.
