The Public Utility Hydro-Québec-based in Montreal will introduce new financial incentives for the purchase of solar panels, starting in 2026.

The utility said in a statement that homeowners and commercial and industrial (C&I) customers in Quebec can receive 1,000 for each kilowatt installed, up to a maximum of 40% of the total installation costs.

Hydro-Québec estimates that this can be about 5,000 in help for a medium-sized house and so far 40,500 for a commercial building.

In May, the Planning Utility revealed to develop 11 GW of clean energy by 2035, including 3 GW solar energy. The announcement was soon followed by one 300 MW Solar TenderOpen until March 31, 2026.

The goal of 11 GW is supported by CAD 10 billion in investments by 2035, said Hydro-Québec. Among other things, planned incentives to expand the absorption of solar energy is Increasing the permitted size of solar installations for self -consumption from 50 kW to 1,000 kW.

Canada installed 314 MW solar energy in 2024, which brings the cumulative installed PV capacity to more than 5 GW.
