The Ministry of Energy of Romania has signed new financing contracts with 47 public entities for solar parks that will produce electricity for self -consumption at schools, hospitals, town halls and other institutions.

The newly supported solar projects are expected to reach a combined capacity of 47.43 MW. The total investment value for these projects is almost RON 325 million ($ 74.1 million), of which more than RON 296 million will be financed through the modernization fund.

The contracts fall under the most important program 1-renewable energy sources and energy storage framework, an investment current available under the modernization fund that supports the development of solar parks for self-consumption by public institutions.

The program allows Local authorities to become renewable energy producers with a statement from the ministry and adds that in most cases installed capacities cover up to 70% of the energy needs of public institutions.

Sebastian Burduja, Energy Minister of Romania, Said the number of contracts signed via Key Program 1 is now at 1,010. These contracts have a combined solar capacity of 390 MW and a total investment value of more than Ron 2.7 billion. He added that the modernization fund “will be the most powerful investment instrument in the future of our communities.”

“It is the start of a new paradigm: the energy of the future is being produced locally, safely and neatly, and Romania is paramount,” Said Burduja. ‘Together with local authorities, we will continue to build energy car networks, digitizing systems and supporting projects that produce real value for each community. ”

Romania installed 1.7 GW Van Zonne energy in 2024, a record in a calendar year, which pushes the cumulative solar capacity of the country to almost 5 GW. The land Second auction for renewable energy sourcesOffering 3.47 GW capacity, including 1.47 GW Zonne, launched in May.

Earlier this week, the Romanian transmission system operator Truselectrica opened one 70 MWh storage offer.
