The Slovenian Ministry of Cohesion and Regional Development has launched a program of € 16 million to subsidize new self-sufficient PV energy communities. The EU cohesion policy program of the government and the Slovenia are co-financing of the initiative, the ministry said in a statement.

“The total nominal capacity of the installed photovoltaic modules must be at least 100 kW, with or without storage systems for battery energy,” the authorities said. “These investments will be carried out by local energy communities, whose members are predominantly domestic consumers. ‘

The program runs from this year until 2027. Money is awarded to qualified communities through non-residual subsidies.

“The public call is intended to encourage an increased production of electricity from renewable energy sources within the Republic of Slovenia,” the ministry said.

Slovenia registered 400 MW of new PV installations in 2023 and took its total installed capacity at 1.1 GW, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Energy.
