A new long -term partnership between Doral Renewables LLC and American Farmland Trust (AFT) is intended to improve innovation and sustainability in agricultural communities in the United States. By support for Afts Smart sun Initiative will try the partnership towards further solutions that help build the viability of the farms and at the same time scale up domestic energy generation.

The Smart Solar Principles will help guide this work, which tries to achieve three main goals:

  1. Land protection suitable for agriculture.
  2. Strengthen the viability of the farm.
  3. Speed up the development of solar energy.

More than 10 million hectares of land will be needed to achieve goals for renewable energy by 2050, with 80% of this development that takes place on agricultural land. At the same time, solar development can create opportunities for farmer families to build the viability of generation and to keep land in agriculture. AFT, a national non-profit organization that focuses on protecting agricultural land, promoting sound agricultural practices and keeping farmers on land, is a national leader in agricultural compatible solar development.

“Since day 1, the No. 1 principle of Doral Renewables has been to ensure long-term obligation to support farmers and communities nationwide by offering farm-friendly energy development that maximizes their land use, diversifies their income stream, floats economic development and encourages them to return to heritage farming in their farming in their farming. Farms, “said Baptista, VP of Development and Agrivoltaics in Doral. “Working together with Aft only seemed like a natural step forward while we scale up our dual-use activities in our development pipeline and continue our efforts to support farmers in their search to get the most out of their agricultural land and to strengthen the viability of the farm and at the same time promote.”

AgrivoltaicThe intentional combination of agricultural and solar energy generation on the same piece of land for the life of a project can be an important method for solar sites to continue to produce food and fibers and at the same time improve the soil carbon laying, biodiversity, water quality and nature habitat. Due to the duration of the partnership, AFT Doral will advise on the smart solar principles, including the implementation of Agrivoltaics systems and best practices for entering into agricultural communities.

“America needs renewable energy and productive, resilient farms and ranches,” said Ethan Winter, National Smart Solar Director of AFT. “Partnerships such as these are crucial for investing in the future of Agrivoltaic and the viability of the long term”
