Desri and the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (Smud) have performed a long -term PPA for the Dry Creek Energy Storage project. Dry Creek is a 160 MW/640-MWH Battery Energy Storage System (Bess) in Sacramento County.

“Our Desri team is proud to bring this reliable, cost-effective clean energy storage project to the California Energy System, an exciting new addition to our collaboration with Smud for many years,” said Desri Chief Development Officer Hy Martin. “This project will play a crucial role in helping Smud to maintain and improve the reliability of the grid, to optimize the performance of their assets for renewable energy and to contribute to their targets for carbon poor.”

Smud and Desri have worked together on the project for several years. Given the significant transmission infrastructure on the dismantled Rancho Seco -generating station, the BES is optimally located to use the existing infrastructure and to limit expensive upgrades on the system. The energy storage system will be charged with the help of renewable energy and other clean sources that are available on the Rooster van Smud, to support the integration of sustainable power and improve the net reliability.

“This battery storage project represents an important milestone in Smud’s Zero Carbon plan while working towards carbon-free electricity by 2030,” said Smud Chief Zero Carbon Officer Lora Anguay. “By improving our existing renewable infrastructure at Rancho Seco with battery technology, we are building a more flexible and more reliable schedule while making a more efficient integration of renewable energy possible.”
