The Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Somalia has issued a tender for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of off-grid solar power plants with storage.

The factories will serve 46 educational facilities in the Benadir administrative region in southeastern Somalia, which includes the capital Mogadishu. The tender document lists 46 lots, with a minimum PV capacity ranging from 16 kW to 250 kW and a minimum battery storage capacity ranging from 50 kWh to 800 kWh.

Funding for the project, known as the Somali Electricity Sector Recovery Project (SESRP), comes from the World Bank. The project delivery period is eight months from the commencement date. Further information can be downloaded from SESRPs website.

Bids must be submitted by post no later than August 1.

Somalia had deployed 51 MW of solar energy by the end of last year, compared to 47 MW the year before, according to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency.
