Spain’s ecological transition minister, Teresa Ribera, said this week that the government has submitted a new stimulus program to public consultation. It is designed to support the development of a clean energy technology supply chain in the country.

Authorities launched the project for the first call for subsidies for the production of equipment for the energy transition, with a budget of €750 million ($813.8 million), Ribera said.

“Let us remember that it is not enough just to change the color of the molecules or electrons; the industries that have been abandoned, the services that have been abandoned, are actually the great opportunity to reindustrialize and modernize our productive industry,” she said.

Backed by funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), the plan is expected to support the production of equipment and essential components of photovoltaic panels, batteries, wind turbines, heat pumps and electrolyzers.

The February edition of pv magazine considers the implications of Dubai’s COP28 climate change summit for solar energy and questions where the workers will come from to staff the energy transition. A busy edition also reaches as far as Bulgaria, the South Caucasus, Cyprus, South Africa, Poland and Navajo Nation in search of sun updates.

The Institute for Diversificación y Ahorro de la Energía (IDAE) will manage the funds, which will be implemented under a competitive regime.
