Sri Lanka continues with 100 MW Solar Project – PV Magazine International

The Sri Lankan government has approved the land transfer for a 100 MW solar project in the south. The site will be transferred to the Sustainable Energy Authority to promote the project.

Sri LankaThe Ministers’ cabinet has approved the transfer of land to the sustainable energy authority of the country for a 100 MW solar project.

The Siyambalanduwa PV -Array is built on 220 hectares in the province of UvA in Sri Lanka. The cabinet approved the country to the Sustainable Energy Authority to start the work immediately, according to a government declaration.

The Colombo -based Rividhanavi, a joint venture between Lakdhanavi Ltd. And Windforce PLC, the project develops. The company won a competitive tender in 2022 and signed a 20-year-old electricity buy agreement with the State Ownership of the State owned in February 2024.

Sri Lanka strives to find 70% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. The country reached 966 MW installed solar capacity at the end of 2023, according to the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

Sri Lanka announced plans in October 2024 to install PV on the roof in places of worship, aimed at adding 25 MW solar capacity.
