Statkraft promotes green H2 plans in Germany – SPE

Statkraft says it is moving forward with its 200 MW electrolyzer plant in Germany, while Neste says it will not invest in its 120 MW electrolyzer project in Finland.

Statkraft has received financial support from the European Union for this purpose set up a hydrogen production site in Emden, Germany. The company was selected to negotiate a grant decision of up to €107 million ($115.97 million) for its project, which will include a 200 MW electrolysis plant and a 50 MW heat pump system. Statkraft said it also plans to make a final investment decision on its 10 MW green hydrogen pilot project by the end of the year.

Nest has decided to forgo investments in a 120 MW electrolysis project for the production of renewable hydrogen at its refinery in Porvoo, Finland. The decision follows simple engineering phase, which started in May 2023. “The reasons behind the withdrawal are the challenging market conditions and financial performance of the company, which require a critical assessment of new investments,” said the Finnish oil refinery. “The evaluation of this project has been influenced by the strict restrictions on the use of renewable hydrogen in the refinery’s processes to comply with the Finnish national distribution obligation.”

DHL Supply Chai And Diageo North America have announced plans to add two fuel cell electric vehicles trucks, powered by hydrogen, to their American fleet. Nikola Corp. said that it will deploy Class 8 trucks powered by a Hyla modular fuel tank at Diageo’s campus in Plainfield, Illinois.

Eternal power has secured a €2.3 billion “preliminary contract” for the sale of green hydrogen from a project to be built near Rostock, Germany. The German developer does expected Unpleasant build an 80 MW electrolyzer, which can eventually be scaled up to 400 MW. Construction of the first phase near the Baltic Sea port is likely to take place start end of 2026.

Air liquid said it has recorded growth in hydrogen-related orders from China. The French supplier of industrial gas said that the Asia Pacific region experienced growth of 4.1% in the third quarter of 2024, generating revenues of €1,340 million. Sales in major industries rose 6.6%, mainly due to the launch of a large hydrogen unit in China in March, Air Liquide said.
