Tata Power Inaugures 4.3 GW Solar Factory

The TP -Zonne unit of Tata Power has opened a 4.3 GW solar cell and module factory in India. Women are 80% of the workforce at the facility.

TP Solar, a Tata Power -daughter company, has opened 4.3 GW Zonnecel and Modulefabriek in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The main minister of the Indian state, Thiru MK Stalin, honored the production facility.

The 4.3 GW solar cell and module factory is the largest solar production facility for solar energy in India. It is equipped for tunnel oxide Passivated Contact (Topcon) and Mono -Passivated Emitter Achter Cell (PERC) technologies.

‘It doesn’t do it alone [the solar manufacturing facility] Showcase innovative technology, but it also plays a crucial role in community development by creating opportunities for work, with 80% of the workforce consisting of women, ”said Praveer Sinha, CEO and director of Tata Power.

The solar cells and modules produced in the Tamil Nadu facility will initially serve the current projects of the company, which strengthens the supply chain. Tata Power said it is also planning to explore opportunities for wider market distribution.

In addition to the Tirunelveli factory, Tata Power has a production facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, founded in 1992. The facility has a production capacity of 682 MW for solar modules and 530 MW for solar cells.
