The Brazilian subsidiary of the Belgian company reports that the board of directors has taken over and approved the ‘stopping the photovoltaic product line’, a decision requested by Chinese competition. It launched its last module on the Markt in September 2024.

The Brazilian subsidiary of the Belgian multinational Eternit has announced the “stopping the photovoltaic product line”. This announcement to its shareholders and the market in general was made in accordance with CVM Resolution No. 44 by the Board of Directors, which met on 11 March 2025.

“In recent years, Eternit has searched for alternatives to make his photovoltaic product line more competitive. This product line has not proved viable, even after all the efforts made in this goal, so after careful analysis, the company decided to stop this segment. This decision was influenced by competition with photovoltaic panels of the Chinese market, “the company said.

It added that the financial effects of this decision ‘are already reflected in the results of 31 December 2024, including income and costs, a total of BRL 17.1 million [$2.97 million]With repercussions about fixed assets, stocks, facilities for guarantees and compensation groups. “

Eternit experienced a crisis because of the use of asbestos in its fiber cement roofs and converted in 2019, the year in which it presented a photovoltaic tile that was produced with technology developed in Brazil and approved by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) at the Intersius. Last year it announced the installation of these tiles in projects in Brazil. In September 2024, it launched a BIPV photo film module made in Brazil.

Eternit went through a crisis because of the use of asbestos in his fiber cement roof tiles, moved to the photovoltaic sector in 2019 when it presented a PV tile produced with technology developed in Brazil developed and approved by the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (inpetro) on the Paulo. Last year it announced the installation of these tiles in projects in Brazil. In September 2024, it launched a BIPV photo film module made in Brazil.
