Coming from Stealth, the Fenogy of Switzerland revealed its first commercial scale on Wednesday on Wednesday-what marked the largest installation of sodium ion batteries so far in Europe.

The system with one container, installed at a commercial location near Bremen Airport in Northern Germany, supplies 400 kW power and offers almost 1 MWh of storage capacity. It is linked to an existing 50 kW of solar array and is currently active in island mode, so that energy consumption is optimized on site and at the same time charging electric vehicles.

One of the most important challenges in the use of sodium batteries on a scale is the compatibility of the inverter because of the wider voltage range compared to conventional lithium-ion systems. This made the choice of inverter technology crucial.
