China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) says the country has installed 21.05 GW of solar capacity by July 2024, bringing the annual total to 123.53 GW, while China Huadian Group has issued a tender for PV modules of 16.03 GW has launched.

The NEA said newly installed solar capacity reached 21.05 GW in July 2024, down 9.77% from the previous month. From January to July, cumulative new PV installations reached 123.53 GW. At the end of July, the country’s total installed power generation capacity was approximately 3.1 TW, an increase of 14% year-on-year. Solar power capacity alone was around 740 GW, up 49.8%, while wind power capacity was around 470 GW, up 19.8%.

China Huadian Group has completed its second round of tenders for PV modules for 2024, up to 16.03 GW. The tender includes three segments with n-type tunnel oxide passivated contact modules (TOPCon), n-type back contact modules and heterojunction modules (HJT). The first two segments are covered by a framework agreement with an expected delivery in June 2025, while delivery of the third segment is planned between September and November 2024.

NewU group said it will end its planned investment in a 20 GW solar inverter and bi-directional inverter manufacturing project. As of October 2023, the Shenzhen-listed company had committed approximately CNY460 million ($64.4 million) to construct a building in Jinxian County, Jiangxi Province. However, it cited a strategic reassessment and the need for prudent decision-making as reasons for abandoning the project.

Shanghai electric energy said the 200 MW Tokaj solar plant in Hungary, financed by subsidiary Xihe New Energy Development, is making progress in connecting to the electricity grid. The project in northeastern Hungary is expected to be fully integrated into the electricity grid by the end of the year.

Golden solar energy technology has announced an expected loss of between CNY 150 million and CNY 160 million for the six months ended June 30, 2024. Revenue for the first half was CNY 127 million, down about 18% compared to CNY 155 million for the same period last year . The company attributed its results to price competition in the first half of 2024. The company has invested in upgrading its existing heterojunction solar cell production lines to produce high-efficiency heterojunction back-contact PV products, which it plans to sell in the US and European markets.
