Chinese PV module manufacturer Trina Solar has announced that it has achieved an energy conversion efficiency of 25.9% for a large-area industrial TOPCon solar cell.

The company said the result was confirmed by the German Institute for Solar Energy Research in Hamelin (ISFH CalTeC).

“The record-breaking solar cell, which uses the innovative rectangular wafer design that Trinasolar first invented, with the golden size of 210 mm x 182 mm,” Trina said in a statement.

“The substrate is an n-type phosphorus-doped Cz silicon wafer with long minority carrier lifetime. Integrating tunnel oxide passivating contact, an advanced boron-doped emitter, advanced light capture and ultra-fine line printing technologies, front-end efficiency reaches 25.9% for this dual-sided industrial enclosure N-type i-TOPCon cell,” it added, without giving more technical details.

In a recent interview with pv magazineZhang Yingbin, head of Trina Solar’s global product strategy, said the company aims to achieve more than 26% efficiency in TOPCon cells by 2027.

In April, Trina said it was n-type i-TOPCon solar panel for applications in large-scale PV projects reached a power of 740.6 W, with the German TÜV SUD confirming the results.
