Details of a new CAP-and-Floor schedule to support long-term energy storage (LDES) in the United Kingdom have been unveiled, including important decisions about suitability criteria.

Orgem has confirmed that the Cap-and-Floor scheme will be open to LDES assets that can supply eight hours or more electricity, higher than a duration of six hours Previous proposals. The regulator of the energy sector has also committed itself to a minimum capacity of 100 MW for its “stream 1” application round, followed by a minimum of 50 MW for “Stream 2”.

The stream 1 round is open to established storage technologies that meet the technological readiness nine (TRL9) criteria of gem. The second is open to TRL 8 technologies.
